Hello everyone! It's great to connect with you again. Today, I'm thrilled to share our recent masterclass focused on overcoming anxiety, finding inner peace, and understanding the body's survival mode. If you've ever felt overwhelmed, anxious, or simply out of control in your own body, this post is for you. Let's dive in!
First off, it was amazing to see how international our masterclass attendees were. We had friends beaming in from Los Angeles, the South Coast of France, Liverpool, Mid Wales, Galway Island, Nashville, and Indiana, among many others. It's heartwarming to see how the topic of anxiety and inner peace resonates worldwide.
Many of us reach a point where being constantly on edge becomes unbearable. Personally, I craved a real sense of inner peace and calm that seemed elusive. Maybe, like me, you’re curious to learn how you can cultivate this inner peace and understand how our bodies function in ways that create anxiety and survival modes. The good news? There’s a way to turn these off just as automatically.
Anxiety can trap us with automatic responses, sometimes making us feel unsafe in our own bodies. If you’ve ever felt out of control, you're not alone. One of the first steps in our journey is understanding what safety in the body means neurologically and how to harness primitive reflexes to feel safe again.
**Example Check-in:** On a scale of 1 to 10, how anxious do you feel now? Reflect on your number today and consider how it might vary day by day.
Looking at me now, you might see a confident, calm, and productive individual. But it hasn’t always been this way. I struggled with low-level anxiety due to childhood traumas and found myself dissociating, often escaping into binge-watching or excessive sleep. Yoga and self-regulation helped, but the real turning point came during lockdown.
Lockdown stripped away my self-regulation tools. Coupled with a challenging relationship with my narcissistic partner, it led to heightened anxiety and my first severe panic attack.
"This was my first full-blown panic attack. I couldn't breathe. I thought I was going to die." — Me
It became clear that I needed to take control. This realization led me to a cliff edge, literally and figuratively, where I made a pivotal decision to prioritize my mental and emotional well-being.
Every day, I dedicated time to self-healing. I sought courses, mentorship, and reflex work that transformed my life. This journey empowered me to help others and develop programs focused on self-regulation and inner peace.
Think back to a time when you felt on edge. Now, imagine having someone to guide you, someone who’s been through similar experiences and can help you turn things around. This supportive guidance can make all the difference.
Primitive reflexes are developmental pathways that babies use to transition from the womb to adulthood. These reflexes, like the startle reflex, are automatic and can be leveraged to turn off our fight-or-flight responses. Understanding these reflexes is foundational to our program.
Feet, Hands, and Face Reflex
Feet: Rub against the floor.
Hands: Massage hands thoroughly.
Face: Stroke lightly or tap specific points (jaw, chin, nose).
Close your eyes and feel the sensations in your feet, hands, and face simultaneously.
Rocking Reflex
Place right hand over left rib and left hand over the diaphragm.
Rock gently side to side, mimicking the motion of rocking a baby.
Isometric Pressure
Place the heel of your hand on the diaphragm and breathe in deeply.
Hold the breath and gently push back with your hand against the diaphragm.
Finger Hugging Breath
Wrap your hand around each finger in turn, taking a deep breath for each.
By engaging in these exercises, you can begin to feel immediate effects, creating a more stable and regulated nervous system.
Visualization is a powerful tool in calming anxiety. Close your eyes and imagine a place where you felt completely safe — maybe a beach, a forest, or a cozy room. Allow yourself to fully immerse in that safe space.
One significant experience was working with a client whose sister tragically took her own life. Despite the trauma, through consistent work with reflexes, my client transformed from being highly anxious to a calm advocate for soil health, speaking confidently on platforms she never dared to approach before.
"From unable to function to giving a eulogy, she became empowered, advocating for her passion with newfound confidence." — Me
